If I right click on my computer and open, everything shows up and a double click on a drive opens the drive, if I explore to the desktop folder and double left on a file it opens. But just on the desktop, a double left opens the properties of the file or computer, and a right acts the same way.
I just rebooted last night and gave up. All my search has not turned anything up, I have never seen anything like this, and can not honestly remember doing any messing around or changing settings, much less something that would only effect the desktop literly.
I came across something similar back when I was using Win2K I believe it hasn't happened in a long time anyway the mouse buttons would be reversed sort of.
The left button would bring up the properties of anything and it would bring up the context menu when clicking on the desktop etc. Yeah a reboot has fixed it. It was very perplexing, not just the problem, but why it only effected the desktop and not the folders or even the desktop folder. Navigate to the Driver tab in the Keyboard properties. Select the Uninstall button will remove the existing driver from the device manger.
Confirm the Uninstall. Now, restart the computer and check if the issue. Jonathan Ledesma. Original titile: I don't know what happen. I just want to ask what happened to my PC.

I had the same problem. It took hours to find this and only minutes to execute and fix. I downloaded the three bottom files: "Directory", "Drive" and "Folder". Closed all open programs, ran the files one at a time. No re-start was required. I was working with Excel macros just before that, to mention it was big file.
I closed that and tried to copy that to another location and this problem started. I had a similar issue now. Every action was being alternated by the mice right-click, left-click, selection tool, drag and drop, etc ALT key was not active and I did try to hit it a few times, then activated and deactivated it with the OnScreenKeyboard - no help. Thank you, thank you , thank you for posting this. I'd already tried rebooting twice, and System Restore.
Apparently ALT key on either the primary or add-on keyboard was stuck. Clicking each of the four ALT keys a a few times resolved this, and saved my bacon today! Works on Win7, Win XP. Holy cow, Batman: somebody reports a problem with mouse behaviour and you recommend a system restore as the remedy? Little heavy-handed, don't you think? Especially when tapping the ALT key once or twice usually fixes this issue, as per MarkDempsey's post.
Just to report though that this issue is still live in more recent versions of Windows, such as Windows 10 and Windows Server It's not particularly regular but I do seem to run into it more often when using remote desktop. I also had this, and for some reason, when I tried typing in Chrome's omnibar it would open the settings. I fixed it by spamming the alt and alt-gr keys a couple times, so I suspect the computer got stuck in 'alt-down' mode, however that may have happened. Office Office Exchange Server.
